Blog 15: Album done! Finally… What now?​

Yes! The album is complete! What a journey it has been! Actually I thought the album was done earlier but… It got mixed from scratch and remastered here is what happened.

I sent the mixed files to a friend, he mastered them and I thought they sounded great.. During this processes, we had a change in management and the husband of the new manager was mastering engineer for more than 30 years. He mastered tracks famous Dutch bands. And maybe you recognize the name Kensington? Yeah, he mastered for them to.

Back to the story now, I showed him these masters and he was like: ‘Jordi, are you sure you want to release this? The masters sound a little flat and narrow.’ As reference he played me a few tracks he mastered. Dam… These tracks have way more impact and sound spacious. ‘Also can you show me some mixes? I want to see how they sound and how you work.’

I did and I discovered a major flaw. My software sends all tracks to the masterbus by default even when it’s routed to different places. As soon as I fixed the routing, I started the mix from scratch with every track.

I learned a lot from him the next few weeks. When that was done I had a mastering session with him, my friend, and me. My friend told me hew learned a lot. Great! So did I and the difference is massive!

Was it luck or meant to be? Regardless the album is done! I plan to release it at the end of Juli. I think I have a concrete date in the next blog.
